School cooks up culinary success

Louisiana Culinary Institute moves in to new facility, plans for future

"Keith Rush says he can’t cook, but that didn’t stand in his way six years ago when he founded a culinary school in Baton Rouge.

It also hasn’t hindered the growth of the school, which in March moved to a new $5 million location off Airline near Jefferson that’s about four times the size of its previous one.

Rush is retired from the health-care industry; previously, he and other partners operated a small group of hospitals.

But what he does now, he said of the Louisiana Culinary Institute, 'is much more fun.'"

The Louisiana Culinary Institute is licensed by the State of Louisiana Board of Regents, is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE), is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP), is a member of the Louisiana Restaurant Association (LRA), and is a member of the National Restaurant Association (NRA). Graduates are awarded a diploma in Professional Cooking and Culinary Arts or an Associate of Occupational Studies Degree in Culinary Arts and are eligible for certification with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation's ManageFirst Program in ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation, Customer Service, and Controlling Foodservice Costs. Financing and Student Aid are available to students who qualify.
